How to block widgets (and sites) in MGID

MGID exposes a widget_id on every click — the finest unit you can exclude on a native network. Here’s how to find the widgets sending invalid traffic and stop them yourself.

01 /

Find the invalid-traffic widgets

MGID attaches a widget_id — the specific placement on a publisher site — plus a site identifier to every click. Score each visit and break the invalid-traffic rate down by widget and site, and you see which individual widgets, not just which publishers, are concentrating the bots — each one rated 0–100 so you know how bad.

Block them in MGID

In the MGID dashboard, open the campaign and go to the Widgets tab. Use Stop / Block widget on the widget IDs ValidVisit flagged, or add sites to the campaign site blacklist for whole-publisher exclusion. MGID stops serving on those widgets/sites. Because widget-level blocking is more surgical than site-level, you can keep a good publisher while cutting one invalid-traffic widget on it.

What ValidVisit does and doesn’t do

Picture the export before you act on it: widget_id 88421, a site you’ve never served on before, 340 visits, and a 0–100 score sitting at 9 — almost all of them landing inside the same two-minute window. That’s the evidence ValidVisit gives you, not a blanket "this site is bad" but one widget with one specific pattern attached to one number. ValidVisit stops there — it doesn’t stop the widget for you. You’re the one who looks at the score and decides whether to Stop that widget or blacklist the whole site in MGID.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between blocking a widget and a site in MGID?+
A site is the whole publisher; a widget is one placement on it. Widget-level blocking (the Widgets tab) is more surgical — you can cut a single invalid-traffic widget while keeping the rest of a publisher that performs. Site blacklisting removes the publisher entirely.
How do I find the widget IDs to block?+
ValidVisit attributes every scored MGID visit to its widget_id and rates invalid traffic per widget, so the worst widgets surface directly, each backed by a 0–100 score.
